Falcons split final two matches at Invitational

The University of Montevallo volleyball team split a pair of matches Sept. 3 on the final day of the Christian Brothers University Invitational.

The Falcons (2-2) opened up the morning with a tough 3-0 loss to Ouachita Baptist University before sweeping Henderson State University 3-0 in the afternoon.

Montevallo was led by freshman Michelle Walker throughout the day.

In the opening game, Walker recorded 13 kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks. She also had a .400 hitting percentage. In match two, Walker had 18 kills and 23 digs for a huge double-double.

Montevallo fell to Ouachita Baptist in straight sets 28-26, 25-16, 25-18.

Freshman Brianna Guzinskin chipped in 10 kills and six digs and made just one error.

Senior Rachel Wotitzky led the team in digs with 13, while junior Betsy Stevenson led the team in assists with 36.

The Falcons then swept Henderson State 25-20, 25-14, 25-21.

Walker led the Falcons in kills, while Wotitzky came just short of another 30 dig performance with 29.

Sophomore Manyi Ati had six blocks, including two solos. Freshman Katie Best, a Spain Park High School graduate, chipped in five blocks, including one solo.

The Falcons will return to action Sept. 6 as they host the University of West Georgia their home opener.
