The visiting Aliceville High School Yellow Jackets beat out the Montevallo High School football team 48-24 on homecoming night Sept. 9.

After Aliceville retuned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, the Bulldogs (0-3) fired back on a 32-yard field goal from senior Brett Gray with 8:43. But Aliceville took charge the rest of the half, ending the second quarter up 32-3.

Despite being down, Montevallo head coach Jamie Williams said he went into the locker room at the half ready to motivate his team.

“We challenged the kids,” Williams said. “We wanted to win the second half.”

And they did. Although it wasn’t enough to take the win, the Bulldogs outscored the Yellow Jackets 21-14 in the second half.

With 5:84 remaining in the third quarter, Montevallo senior Garrius Chappell scored on a 40-yard touchdown run. Senior R.J. Scaife scored on a 12-yard touchdown run with 5:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, just before picking off a Aliceville pass and returning it 36-yard for a touchdown.

Chappell had 26 carries for 145 yards with one touchdown, hauling in two interceptions. Scaife had 11 carries for 95 yards, picking off one Aliceville pass.
