Falcons top Eckerd College in men’s soccer

The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team used a pair of goals to end Eckerd College’s winning streak in a 2-0 victory in a neutral site match at Valdosta State University.

Junior Shane Howard and freshman Giuliano Frano provided the goals for the Falcons, while sophomore Brendan Ledgeway made two saves to preserve his second shutout of the season.

The Falcons scored just 12 minutes into the game as freshman Alex Morton  found Howard who beat the keeper to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead. Both team fired six shots in the first half and committed five fouls. Eckerd earned five corners compared to Montevallo’s three.

The scoring would dry up for 74 minutes until sophomore Ryuhei Nose found Frano with just over three minutes to play in the game. The goals marked the second of the season for both Howard and Frano and the assists were the first on the season for both Morton and Nose.

The Falcons took seven shots in the second period compared to EC’s six and committed eight fouls compared to the Triton’s three.

Morton led the Falcons with three shots while Frano, Howard and sophomore Ricky Davey each had two.

The Falcons will return to action Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
