Montevallo women’s soccer drops match at Valdosta State

The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team went back and forth with the Blazers of Valdosta State University, but was unable give the Blazers their first setback of the season Sept. 11 in a 1-0 loss.

The Blazers used an early second half goal to win their fourth game of the season.

The Falcons and Blazers played to a 0-0 halftime score as Valdosta State outshot the Falcons 6-2.

Kaitlin Thomas made one save in goal for the Falcons in the first half while Valdosta State’s keeper did not face a shot on goal.

Just 1:52 into the second half Abbi Edwards found Rebecca Miller behind the defense inside the box and she was able to beat the keeper to the far post to give Valdosta State a 1-0 lead. Montevallo outshot the Blazers 7-4 in the second half but were unable to get one past the Blazers’ keeper.

Freshmen Octavia Saunders and Camilla Alderin led the Falcons with two shots each while five others had one shot a piece.

The Falcons will be back in action Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. as they travel to the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
