Falcons finish fifth at Smoky Mountain tournament

The University of Montevallo women’s golf team finished fifth in team standings at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate tournament Sept. 12-13 at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.

The Falcons carded a team score of 664, which placed Montevallo 37 strokes behind tournament winner Shorter University.

Freshman Ashlee Beck led the Falcons as she carded a two-day total of 15-over par 157 in the tournament. Beck finished in a two-way tie for sixth overall in individual standings.

Beck, who finished seven strokes behind tournament winner Lisa Persson of Shorter University, opened the tournament with a 11-over par 82 in the first round Sept. 12. She carded a 4-over par 75 in her final round Sept. 13.

Fellow freshman Megan Clyne shot a 23-over par 165 and finished in a tie for 23rd overall in individual standings.

Junior Kaylee Hale finished with a tournament total 27-over par 169, which placed her 29th in individual standings. Sophomore Tracey Marshall came in 32nd overall in individual standings with her score of 31-over par 173.

Sophomore Hilary Shaner rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with her two-day score of 178. Shaner finished in a tie for 38th in individual standings.

The Falcons finished ahead of North Georgia College and State, West Georgia, King College, St. Andrews and Barton College in the tournament.

Montevallo returns to action Oct. 4 as it hosts the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Invitational at Timberline Golf Club in Calera.
