The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team scored a pair of early goals on the road at the University of Alabama at Huntsville and never looked back in a 4-1 victory Sept. 14.

Montevallo (2-3) had a well-balanced attack, with eight different players taking shots and four different players providing the goals.

Freshman Camilla Alderin provided the game winner in the 16th minute of play when she scored off an assist from sophomore Christine Prince.

Montevallo opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the game as junior Katy Hutto, a Thompson High School graduate, scored on a shot to the far post that beat the keeper to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later Alderin scored on an assist from Prince to put the Falcons up 2-0 just 15:54 into the game.

The game remained 2-0 going into the halftime break. Montevallo outshot the Chargers 8-3 in the first period, while goalkeeper Kaitlin Thomas made just one save to keep a clean sheet in the first half.

Just under five minutes into the second half, Cady Reisman scored the Chargers’ lone goal on a breakaway that was nearly saved by Thomas.

The Falcons returned to their scoring form in the 62nd minute, as sophomore Taylor Kerr scored an unassisted goal to increase the Falcons’ lead to two. With just under four minutes to play, a pair of freshmen teamed up to put the game away as Emma Greenwood found Aimee Godfrey, who put the ball away to give UM a 4-1 lead.

The Falcons pushed their shot advantage to 12-5 in the second half and Thomas once again made a single save in the period to secure the win.

The Falcons will be back in action Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. as they host Christian Brothers University in a non-conference match.
