Falcons blank Concordia in men’s soccer match

The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team blanked Concordia College in Selma 5-0 in a non-conference match Sept. 21.

The match, which was originally scheduled for Sept. 20, was rescheduled due to unplayable field conditions.

The Falcons (4-2-1) scored two goals in the first half and added three goals in the second half in the victory.

Shane Howard led Montevallo with three goals in the win.

Howard got the scoring started for the Falcons in the 42nd minute of the contest. Howard, off an assist from Tyson Eyo, beat the Concordia keeper for the first goal in the match.

Eyo scored the Falcons’ second goal less than a minute later on a free kick from 25 yards out. Montevallo carried a 2-0 lead into the break.

Howard gave Montevallo a 3-0 lead after Eyo sent a ball past the defense and he slotted it in the net in the 54th minute. Phil Jackson pushed the Falcons’ lead to 4-0 when he scored an unassisted goal in the 61st minute.

Howard capped the scoring for the Falcons after he collected a through ball from Frano Giuliano and shot it past the Concordia keeper in the 66th minute.

Montevallo goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway posted a save in the shutout.
