Bernie Windol Coggins, age 74, of Alabaster, formerly of Jemison, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011. Bernie was born in Alabama on April 3, 1937, the son to Walter Leonard Coggins and Georgia Mullins Coggins. He spent his career in the construstion business.

Visitation was held at Charter Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Minister officiating was Billy Wyatt. Bernie was laid to rest on Wednesday immediately following at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, Clanton.

Mr. Coggins was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Coggins; brothers, Julian and George Coggins; sisters, Bessie Williamson, Lorene Mims, Earlene Clacker, Louise Todd and Adele Burgett; and great-grandson, Landon Boothe.

Survivors of Mr. Coggins include his one son, Keith Coggins (Annette); three daughters, Debra Boothe, Becky Howard (James) and Daphne Lucas (Kevin); four brothers, James Coggins (Jeanette), Bobby Cogins (Betty), Harold Coggins (Naomi) and Leonard Coggins (Shirley); one sister, Frances Jackson; 11 grandchildren, Donald Ray Douglas Jr. (Kelly), Jason Higgins (Lindsey), Amber Boothe, Adam Boothe (Mikah), Sonny Lucas, Jennifer Howard, Debbie Beaty (Chase), Christopher Coggins, Jacob Coggins, Jack Lucas and Ashley Dennis; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also, he is survived by a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were David Coggins, Jimmy Todd, Jackie Todd, Johnny Todd, Jerry Todd and Mike Smith.

Arrangements were under the direction of Charter Funeral Home in Calera.
