James Richard Brasher, age 87, a resident of Vandiver, died on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011. Funeral services were 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Bolton Funeral Home with Bro. David Houston officiating. Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Brasher was a veteran of WWII serving with the Navy in the C.B.s (SeaBees). He was retired from Bagby Elevator as an elevator engineer. He was an avid gardener and excellent cook.

Mr. Brasher is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Clara Bearden Brasher; daughter, Carol Joanne Brasher; and grandsons, Timothy Alan Turner and David Shane Crawford. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Gloria Brasher; sons, Richard Michael Brasher (Lisa) and David Walter Brasher (Samantha); daughters, Katherine Turner (Junior) and Teresia B. Kendrick; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ila Mae Chandler; brother, Ray Brasher (Pat); and numerous other family and friends.
