WASDEN — Coosa Valley Academy coach Bobby Hughes and his Rebels were hungry for their first win Sept. 30 when they traveled to Wasden field to face the Meadowview Christian School Trojans.

The Rebels came back home with their first win of the season following a 41-29 win over the Trojans.

The Rebels (1-5) marched 79 yards on their opening drive, capped off by a 32-yard pitch and catch from Preston Parker to Steven Cryer for a touchdown to make it a 7-0 game.

Landon Floyd recovered a fumble on the ensuing possession, giving Coosa Valley great field position, but the Rebels couldn’t capitalize.

The Rebels also turned the ball over by losing a fumble of their own on the Trojans’ 35-yard line. After forcing a Meadowview punt, Coosa Valley quarterback Cody Wood was immediately picked off by the Trojans and Dylan Lawrence was able to put together a scoring drive to tie the game at 7-7 with 8:44 left in the half.

Both teams traded punts before Coosa Valley scored on a 46-yard scamper by Mason Donahoo, making it 14-7 with 3:03 left in the second quarter. Meadowview countered the blow with a 76-yard touchdown drive and a 2-point conversion to take the lead 15-14 at the half.

The third quarter remained scoreless until the 5:02 mark when Steven Cryer returned a Trojan punt 55 yards for a touchdown to make the game 21-15.

The Rebels went on to score touchdowns on their next three possessions, running away with the game in the fourth quarter and capturing the first win of their season.

“We’ve gone through a lot this year and had a bunch of adversity,” Hughes said. “Maybe this win will help us going into the next few weeks. If we win the next two games, we’ll get to go to the playoffs. This is just a huge win for the guys and hopefully it will carry over to next week.”
