The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team fell to Clayton State University 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 5.

The Falcons (3-8 overall, 1-4 in Peach Belt Conference) outshot the Lakers 17-7 and had three more shots on goal than the Lakers. Two first half goals were all the Lakers needed as Montevallo was unable to find the target throughout the game.

The scoring started in the 24th minute as the Lakers sent a free kick into the box that was mistakenly headed into the goal by the Falcons to give Clayton State a 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes later, Natalia Valentine put the Lakers up 2-0 as she beat the Falcons’ keeper to the far post.

Freshman Camilla Alderin led the Falcons with four shots including two one goal. Freshman Aimee Godfrey added three shots with one on goal.

Sophomore Kaitlin Thomas and junior Alyssa Maxwell split time in goal as Thomas took the loss and Maxwell made a save.
