The Columbiana Farmers Market is trying something new this weekend: a community-wide yard sale.

Randy Glenn, the manager of the farmers market, said everybody in the county is invited to come to the farmers market to set up space and sell items starting at daybreak Saturday, Oct. 15.

Glenn said people should bring everything from “grandma’s dress to grandpa’s horse collar.” Chickens, goats, dogs, horses and all other kinds of animals can be sold. If you can legally sell it in Columbiana, Glenn said, then you can bring it to the farmers market to sell.

Glenn will assign individual spots at the market, which starts at daybreak on West College Street, across the street from the courthouse in the overflow parking area. If it rains, the sale will move beneath the nearby pavilion.

There is no charge to sell items.

If successful, the yard sale could become a monthly event, turning the farmers market into more of an open market-type venue.

“This is one shot right now,” Glenn said. “If it succeeds, we are going to try to have another one in the spring when the weather is pretty. If that succeeds, we may work towards holding them monthly – that’s the long range plan.”
