Panthers fall in tournament quarterfinals

The Pelham High School volleyball team fell to McGill-Toolen Catholic School in the quarterfinals of the Blalock tournament Oct. 8 at Homewood High School.

The Panthers fell to the Dirty Dozen 22-25, 11-25 in the quarterfinals.

Seniors Porsha Tolbert and Dana Allen led Pelham with six kills each in the match. Tolbert also recorded 10 digs and a service ace. Allen chipped in six digs.

Sophomore Caitland Smith added five kills. Senior Sydney Days registered three digs and a block to go along with a team-high 19 assists.

The Panthers won their first three matches in the tournament before dropping their final two. Pelham defeated John Carroll Catholic 25-20, 25-13 in its opening match before topping Pleasant Valley 25-9, 25-16 in its second match. The Panthers also defeated Boaz 25-21, 26-24 before falling to Huntsville 19-25, 18-25.

Allen led Pelham with 39 kills and 23 digs in the tournament. Tolbert recorded 30 kills and 39 digs. Smith finished with 15 kills and seven blocks. Days registered 12 digs and five blocks to go along with a team-high 97 assists.

Alison El-Feraly recorded 12 kills and six service aces. Ashley Kate Kepler added 11 digs and eight service aces.
