Oak Mountain claims area championship

NORTH SHELBY — Oak Mountain High School volleyball coach Lance Woods led the Eagles to an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A, Area 10 tournament championship in his first season at the helm Oct. 11.

The Eagles swept Pelham 25-17, 25-23, 25-22 to claim the Class 6A, Area 10 title.

Hannah Kowal and Emily Cosgrove led Oak Mountain (29-10) with 10 kills each in the victory.

Sara Goodwin recorded a team-high seven digs. Hannah Beach registered a team-high 27 assists.

Porsha Tolbert led Pelham (38-19) with seven kills and nine digs in the match.

Dana Allen finished with six kills and 13 digs. Ashley Kate Kepler finished with five kills. Sydney Days registered two service aces and a team-high 18 assists in the match.

Alison El-Feral finished with five kills, two blocks and two digs. Caitland Smith added five kills and three blocks.

Oak Mountain ended Thompson’s season with a 25-12, 25-22, 18-25, 25-12 win over the Warriors in a semifinal match to advance to the title match.

Jade Douglas led the Warriors with eight kills in the match. Katie Guiser added six kills. Hailey Schatz contributed four kills.

Kasie Holcomb chipped in a team-high seven service aces and 11 digs.

Pelham defeated Hoover 26-24, 25-20, 12-25, 20-25, 15-8 to reach the area tournament title match.

Allen led the Panthers with 15 kills, 12 digs and two blocks in the win.

Tolbert chipped in 13 kills and 26 digs. Smith posted 11 kills, four blocks and four digs. Kepler recorded four kills, 15 digs and one service ace.

Days registered three service aces and eight digs to go along with 40 assists in the victory.
