Montevallo men’s golf team finishes sixth in Indian Bayou Classic

The University of Montevallo men’s golf team wrapped up play in Destin, Fla. with a sixth-place finish Oct. 12 at the Indian Bayou Classic.

The Falcons played one of their best tournaments in recent history, as the team did not have one round over 78.

Senior Gonzalo Gambertoglio led the way with a two-round score of 145, which was just one stroke over par. Gambertoglio had a second round score of 69, which is 3-under par and the lowest round shot so far this season by a Falcon. He finished tied for eighth place overall.

Junior Andrew Lowry finished tied for 14th with a two round score of 147, which was just 3-over par for the tournament. Senior Aaron Ebert shot a 152 and finished tied for 32nd.

The final two UM golfers each shot a 154 and tied for 45th overall. Both sophomore Joe Haupt and junior Mariano Lepori shot a first round 78 and a second round 76.

The Falcons finished just one stroke behind Peach Belt Conference rival Columbus State University. The University of North Alabama won the tournament, while Saint Leo University finished second.

The Falcons will return to action Oct. 17-18 at the Lincoln Memorial University Fall Invitational in Pineville, Ky.
