Seven teams advance to region volleyball tournaments

Seven high school volleyball teams in Shelby County advanced to to play in an Alabama High School Athletic Association region tournament Oct. 15 following area tournament action.

One school, Briarwood Christian School, will host a Class 5A region tournament.

The Lions will face Brookwood in their opening match in the tournament at 10 a.m. Chelsea will meet Central-Tuscaloosa in a quarterfinal match at 11:15 a.m. The semifinals are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The consolation match will take place at 2:45 p.m. and the finals are set for 4 p.m.

Oak Mountain High School and Pelham High School will travel to Gardendale High School for a Class 6A region tournament.

The Eagles will meet Minor in a quarterfinal match at 11:15 a.m. Pelham will face host Gardendale in another quarterfinal match at 10 a.m. Semifinal matches are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The consolation match is set for 2:45 p.m. and the championship match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Calera High School will travel to Central-Sumter County High School in Livingston for a Class 4A region tournament. The Eagles will face Dallas County in a quarterfinal match at 11:15 a.m. The semifinals are set for 1:30 p.m. The consolation match is set for 2:45 p.m., with the championship match scheduled for 4 p.m.

Montevallo High School and Indian Springs School will travel to Leeds High School for a Class 3A region tournament. The Bulldogs will face Sipsey Valley in a quarterfinal match at 10 a.m. Indian Springs will meet Marbury in another quarterfinal match at 10 a.m. The semifinals are set for 1:30 p.m. The consolation match is set for 2:45 p.m. The championship match will take place at 4 p.m.
