FROM STAFF REPORTS

The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team dropped its first Peach Belt Conference match of the season on the road Oct. 15 at Francis Marion University, 2-0.

Prior to the Falcons giving up the go-ahead goal, the team and sophomore goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway broke the school record for longest scoreless streak.

The Falcons held opponents scoreless for 529 consecutive minutes prior to the Patriots’ goal at the 22:07 mark. The streak broke the previous 514-minute streak set by the Falcons in 2007.

The Falcons (8-3-3 overall, 4-1-1 in Peach Belt Conference) found themselves down 1-0 at halftime after an Alex Blandin strike at the 22:07 mark.

Montevallo trailed 1-0 for almost the entire match. With less than four minutes to play Ledgeway was given a red card, which led to the Falcons playing the final three minutes a man down and without their starting goalkeeper.

The Patriots took advantage as they scored a goal with three seconds left in the match to take a 2-0 victory.

Ledgeway made two saves prior to leaving the match.

Senior Phil Jackson led the Falcons with five shots, including two shots on goal.

The Falcons, who are ranked No. 21 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II poll, will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. as they host Young Harris College in a non-conference match.
