FROM STAFF REPORTS

The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to Armstrong Atlantic State University in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 15.

The Falcons (4-10 overall, 2-5 in Peach Belt Conference) came out on fire in the first 10 minutes as they dominated possession and had a number of breakaway chances. The Pirates withstood the storm and eventually scored the first goal of the game at the 12:16 mark and took over from that point on.

Montevallo took six shots, with two shots on goal, while the Pirates had 16 shots with nine on frame.

Senior Kristin Rosato led the Falcons with three shots, including a pair of shots on goal.

Kristina Pascutti scored the opening goal of the game just 12 minutes in as she chested down a cross from Mary Margaret Davis and dribbled the ball past the Montevallo keeper to give Armstrong Atlantic a 1-0 lead. Davis struck 18 minutes later as she collected a bad clearance from the Falcons’ defense and whipped it into the goal to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

Montevallo played tough on defense in the second half as they held the Pirates off the board until the 89th minute, when Emily Cattanach stole the ball and dribbled it 40 yards to beat the Montevallo keeper and give Armstrong Atlantic a 3-0 lead.

Junior Alyssa Maxwell made her second-straight start in goal for the Falcons as she made six saves in the loss.

The Falcons will return to action Monday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. as they host former Gulf South Conference rival, the University of West Georgia.
