Roland “Gene” Smith, age 54, of Columbiana passed away on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011. He was born on Thursday, March 14, 1957, and is preceded in death by his father, Roland Jr. Smith; his sister, Bobbie Payne; his uncle, Rufus Smith; and his aunt, Ruth Hendrix. His is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Debra Smith; mother, Gloria Wyatt Smith; son, Travis Shuster; daughter, Brittany Shuster; brothers, Kenneth Smith and Randy Smith; sister, Peggy Hamerick; special nieces, Wendy Ellison and Betty Dudley and a host of other family members and friends.

Gene’s visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 at Charter Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., and his funeral service was Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at Summerhill Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Brother Neal Bearden, Brother Bobby Law and Brother Archie Maddox officiated the services. Arrangements were under the direction of Charter Funeral Home.
