FROM STAFF REPORTS

The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team dominated play throughout the match but was unable to come up with the game-winner in a 1-1 tie with UNC-Pembroke in 110 minutes in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 22.

The Falcons’ lone goal came from junior Mike Rinzema as he cleaned up a mess in the box and beat the UNC-Pembroke keeper with just under 12 minutes to play in regulation.

The Falcons (9-3-4 overall, 4-1-2 in Peach Belt Conference) outshot Pembroke 17-6 and had a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Montevallo’s goal came at the 78:23 mark off a free kick. The Falcons sent the ball into the box and there was a scramble before the ball popped out to the feet of Rinzema, who kicked it into the goal. Just five minutes later, the Braves used a free kick to score the equalizer on a header from Michael Davis.

Despite playing 20 minutes of overtime, the Falcons were only able to take two shots. The Braves were unable to get a shot off the entire overtime period.

Sophomore Brendan Ledgeway made one save in goal, while his counterpart Ryan Hanson made four saves.

Senior Tyson Eyo led the Falcons with three shots, while five others had two shots each.

Prior to the match the Falcons honored their three seniors, including Eyo, Phil Jackson and Vance Curro, a Spain Park High School graduate.

The Falcons return to action Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. as they travel to Georgia Southwestern State University for a Peach Belt Conference match.
