Montevallo takes two non-conference matches

The University of Montevallo volleyball team defeated Limestone College and Lenior-Rhyne University in a pair of non-conference matches Oct. 22 at Limestone College.

The Falcons downed host Limestone 3-0 and then took down Lenoir-Rhyne 3-0 in dominating fashion.

The Falcons (12-13) were led by sophomore Manyi Ati, who averaged 4.33 kills per set over the two matches while hitting .467. The Falcons won the first match against Limestone 25-19, 25-19, 29-27. Montevallo took the match against Lenoir-Rhyne 25-17, 25-11, 25-14.

Against Limestone, the Falcons were led by Ati and freshman Michelle Walker, who each had 12 kills. Ati hit .391 in the game with one dig. Walker had six digs, three service aces and two solo blocks in the match.

Senior libero Rachel Wotitzky broke the record for digs in a three-game match for the third time this season as she had a season-high 31 digs. Senior setter Anna Garrison finished just shy of a double-double with 38 assists and seven digs.

The Falcons as a team hit .224, while holding Limestone to just .110

In the second match, Ati led the Falcons with 14 kills. She also added four digs and two blocks while hitting .545. Walker added 10 kills with four digs and a block while hitting .346.

Garrison had 40 assists while Wotitzky added 20 digs. Junior Kaleigh Harvey added 16 digs to the effort.

Montevallo held Lenoir-Rhyne to a .129 hitting percentage while hitting .352 as a team.

The Falcons will be back in action Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. as they travel to Stillman College for a non-conference match.
