Support Shelby County’s teams

Although the regular season is over for high school football, there are six teams from Shelby County that will continue to play on in hopes of gaining playoff glory and championship rings.

Spain Park, Briarwood Christian, Chelsea, Montevallo, Vincent and Cornerstone Christian will all have games this Friday night.

Two of those teams — Briarwood and Vincent — earned the right to host home games.

We congratulate the coaching staffs and players from those teams for working hard to fulfill their potential and give themselves chances to have memorable years.

For several of these teams, these trips to the playoffs are just continuations of excellence. Briarwood Christian played in the Class 5A championship game last year, and Chelsea, Vincent and Spain Park all are making return trips to the postseason after playoff trips last year.

Cornerstone and Montevallo are both ending a short playoff drought, with those two teams returning to the playoffs after one year absent.

We encourage everyone throughout Shelby County to support these six teams.

There isn’t much out there that is more thrilling than watching a local football team, through hard work and teamwork, make it through the playoff gauntlet and win a chance to bring glory back home to Shelby County.

This year, it could be any of these six teams. And if one of them manages to do it, it will be a pride that all of us across the county will share.

Good luck to the Jaguars, Lions, Hornets, Bulldogs, Yellow Jackets and Chargers. Right now, you are all the pride of Shelby County, and we’ll be cheering you on.
