Falcons drop final regular season match

The University of Montevallo volleyball team dropped its fifth-straight conference match Nov. 5, a 3-2 loss to UNC-Pembroke, to end the regular season.

Montevallo (13-17 overall, 4-10 in Peach Belt Conference) was led by sophomore Manyi Ati, who had 14 kills while hitting .379.

Freshman Michelle Walker chipped in 12 kills, six digs and five blocks, while sophomore Michelle Carle had 10 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Senior setter Anna Garrison had another double-double with 42 assists and 16 digs. Senior Rachel Wotitzky led the team with 17 digs, while senior Jessica Guidry chipped in 14 digs.

The Falcons hit .180 as a team, while UNC-Pembroke hit .266. The Falcons dropped the first set 25-19, but then won sets two and three 25-20 and 25-14. With a chance to put the match away, the Falcons faltered and allowed the Braves to pull out a 25-13 victory in the fourth set. It was all UNC-Pembroke in the fifth set, 15-3.

Montevallo had just 10 kills over the final two sets while hitting .064. UNC-Pembroke was led by Rebecca Morgan, who had 20 kills and 21 digs.

The Falcons, who earned the No. 7 seed in the Peach Belt Conference tournament, will return to action Friday, Nov. 11 against No. 2 seed Flagler College in the conference tournament in Augusta, Ga.
