Eagles top Cahawba Christian

The Hope Christian School girls’ basketball team opened its 2011-2012 season by defeating Cahawba Christian Academy 42-30 in high school basketball action Nov. 12 in the second game of a two-day tournament.

Karlee Tate, Christina Jones and Brooke Machen led the Eagles (2-0) with 10 points each in the victory.

Tate and Machen finished 4-of-8 from the field in the win. Jones went 4-of-7 from the floor.

Davina Drew finished with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting. Joelle Reed and Leigh Wilson Legg added two points each. Erin Douglas finished with one point.

Hope Christian defeated Cullman Christian 33-30 in its opening game of the season Nov. 11 in the first game of the tournament.

Legg led the Eagles with 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. Legg also grabbed two rebounds and recorded a steal.

Tate finished with nine points and dished out one assist. Machen added six points, three rebounds and three steals.

Reed, Douglas and Jones chipped in two points each. Douglas grabbed six rebounds to go along with two steals and two assists. Reed grabbed six rebounds and recorded a steal. Jones finished with four rebounds and two steals.

Drew and Rachel Holmes finished with one point each.
