WESTOVER – The City of Westover will be getting a new traffic light at the intersection of U.S. 280 and Shelby County 51 in the spring.

Westover Mayor Mark McLaughlin said the intersection is busy because of new homes and school traffic from Shelby County 51.

“(Shelby County) 51 is particularly busy because it cuts through for the north and the south. People going into town use it as a cut-through to get onto 280,” he said.

McLaughlin said the bid has been let to allow companies to bid on the project.

“It should be installed and ready to go by the spring,” he said. “The sooner the better from my perspective. It’s not a right-angle intersection. You can’t look at a 90-degree angle; you have to look way over your shoulder. Especially when you have 280 bearing down at you, it’s just a busy place.”
