Former Jag nabs Player of the Week honor

Former Spain Park High School boys’ basketball standout Josh Magette, a senior at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, was recently named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week.

Magette captured the award for the second time in his career following a pair of impressive performances.

For the weekend at the Salisbury Roundball Classic, the 6-foot-1 point guard averaged 14.5 points and 13 assists in two contests.

In the Chargers’ 102-79 victory over St. Augustine’s, Magette moved past the 600 mark for assists in his career as he registered 10 assists to go along with 16 points and six rebounds in just 26 minutes.

Magette played all 40 minutes in an 84-77 win over Catawba as he came one assist shy of the school record for assists in a game. Magette notched 16 assists while also scoring 13 points and grabbing five boards.
