Doris Jean Dawkins, age 76, of Calera passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Phillip Williamson and the late Thelma Duvall Williamson.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bruce Glenn Dawkins. Jean was Shelby County’s first female police officer from 1973 to 1998. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Billy Bruce Dawkins; daughters, Vanessa Parker Reed and Tish Dawkins; brother, Charles Williamson (Rolanda); grandchildren, Jason Parker and Dusty Parker (Liz); and great-grandchildren, Carter, Lilli and Orin Parker.

Arrangements were handled by Charter Funeral Home, where the family received friends from Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were Friday Dec. 9, 2011 at Hickory Hills Church at 11 a.m. with interment at Elliottsville Cemetery. Reverends Andy Cummins and Donnell Brown officiating. Charter Funeral Home directed.
