Eagles split pair of matches

The Calera High School wrestling team split a pair of matches at Shelby County in high school wrestling action Dec. 8.

The Eagles topped rival Shelby County 42-36. Seven Calera wrestlers won individual matches against the Wildcats.

Robert Thomaston of Calera pinned Noah Dorough of Shelby County in 1:58 in the 106-pound match. Hunter Alexander of Calera pinned Aaron Stagner of Shelby County in 1:05 in the 113-pound match.

Keenan Agee of Calera pinned A.J. Cole of Shelby County in 10 seconds in the 120-pound match.

Coby Mize of Calera pinned Chris Upton of Shelby County in 1:39 in the 160-pound match. Jaylin Washington of Calera pinned Luke Miller of Shelby County in 34 seconds in the 170-pound match.

Braxton Stokes and Kevin Murry of Calera each won matches by forfeit.

Six Shelby County wrestlers won individual matches against Calera.

Austin Poe of Shelby County pinned Shawn O’Neill of Calera in 4:44 in the 145-pound match. Chase Weeks of Shelby County pinned Cody Thomaston of Calera in 3:34 in the 152-pound match.

Tyler Carter, Killian Berens, Nick Horton and Clint Davis of Shelby County each won matches by forfeit.

Calera fell to Brookwood 48-30. Five Eagles won individual matches against Brookwood.

Danny Diaz of Calera pinned Houston Thompson of Brookwood in 37 seconds in the 220-pound match. Murry pinned Charles Hallman of Brookwood in 4:35 in the heavyweight match.

Alexander, Mize and Washington each won matches by forfeit.

Shelby County fell to Brookwood 70-12. Two Wildcats won individual matches against Brookwood.

Miller pinned Robert Lee of Brookwood in the 170-pound match. Upton won his match by forfeit.
