Montevallo dominates Miles College

The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team ended its recent losing skid Dec. 10 with a dominating 68-34 victory over Miles College.

The Falcons (5-4) used a balanced team effort to capture the win with sophomore Alex Strickland, senior Tiffany McClure and senior Shavonne Seymore leading the way. Strickland and McClure each had 11 points, while Seymore added 10 points.

Strickland had five rebounds to add to her 11 points, while McClure added a team-high four steals. Seymore recorded a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Senior Davia Harris flirted with a triple-double as she had eight points, nine rebounds and a team-high five assists.

Freshman Taylor Beverly and junior Teanna Boxley added seven points each. Beverly also tied for the lead with four steals.

The Falcons shot 40 percent from the field, while hitting 60 percent of their free throws. Montevallo held the Bears to just 21 percent shooting and did not allow a 3-pointer on eight attempts. Montevallo outrebounded the Bears 54-36 and outscored Miles College 28-18 in the paint.

Montevallo opened the game on a 10-4 run and never looked back as theBears found themselves in a deep hole throughout the game. The Falcons’ largest lead in the first half came on the final basket as Nasiloski hit a free throw to put Montevallo up by 17 points, 29-12.

The Falcons continued their strong play in the second half, and once again the largest lead in the period came on the final basket as Strickland hit a three with nine seconds remaining to put Montevallo up 68-34.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. as they travel south to Faulkner University for a non-conference game.
