University of Montevallo senior guard D.J. Rivera was recently named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball.

Rivera, the Falcons’ leading scorer, helped lead Montevallo to a pair of victories this past week. Rivera is the first Montevallo men’s basketball player to be named Player of the Week this season.

Rivera continued his hot start to the season as he averaged 26.5 points per game, while shooting better than 62 percent from the field last week in a pair of Montevallo wins.

Rivera opened with 27 points and five rebounds in a conference victory over Peach Belt Conference West Division foe Columbus State. Rivera then scored 26 points in a 77-65 win over Miles College. He scored nine of the final 10 points against Miles College to help keep the Golden Bears at bay.

Rivera continues to lead the Peach Belt Conference in scoring, averaging 24.8 points a game, and now has had four straight 25-plus point performances in a row. For the year, Rivera is shooting 52.8 percent from the field.

Rivera and the rest of the Falcons return to action Saturday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. as they travel to the University of West Florida for a two-game tournament.
