MONTEVALLO – The residents of Montevallo now are able to purchase a wide variety of beauty supplies on their own main street.

Main Stream Beauty Supply opened the weekend after Thanksgiving. Edward Patrick, owner of the It’s About Time Barber Shop in downtown Montevallo, and Dedric Spencer opened the new beauty supply store next door to the barber shop.

Shawn Spencer, Dedric’s wife, manages the day-to-day business of the store while Patrick works as a barber and her husband serves as juvenile detention officer.

Main Stream offers ethnic hair products, accessories, make up, jewelry, nail polish and more.

“This is my husband’s dream, him and Ed,” Shawn Spencer said. “We want to supply the needs of the community.”

Spencer said prior to Main Stream opening, Montevallo residents had to drive to Calera or Alabaster for the same products.

“Some stores are going to have more ethnic products than other stores,” Spencer said. “We have a men’s line, and you won’t be able to find weave at Walgreens.

“We carry a lot more of any product because we’re a specialty store,” she added. “If someone comes in and wants something, we’re going to try to get it in.”

As Patrick is a barber by trade, Spencer said he knows what those in his profession need, and he uses the store to supply those requests.

The store offers a 15-percent discount to barbers and stylists and a 10-percent discount for University of Montevallo students.

“We want to meet the needs of the whole community, not a particular group,” Spencer said.

The store is located between the barbershop and Smitherman’s on Montevallo’s Main Street. For more information, call 665-9559.
