The Greystone Ladies Club celebrated the season Dec. 14 at its annual Christmas party.

Dozens of women gathered in the home of hostess Karen Nelson for a luncheon and music.

“We’re having our annual Christmas party,” said Betty Galbraith, who serves as the group’s publicity chair. “What the Greystone ladies do most of the year is have fundraising events to raise money.”

The club, which is in its 19th year, raises money for various charities throughout the Birmingham area. President Carolyn Haynes said the club typically raises between $5,000 and $10,000 each year.

“One big way we raise money is by advertising in our newsletter, which goes out to 1,400 homes,” Haynes said. “We donate all of those proceeds to charity at the end of our fiscal year in May.

Haynes said the club recently sold a Christmas tree decorated by its members for $3,000. The proceeds benefited Children’s Hospital of Alabama.

The club also supports foster children in the Alabama Department of Human Resources system. This year, the women bought Christmas presents for about 20 foster children.

The club also gives a $1,000 annual scholarship to a Spain Park High School student.
