The Spain Park High School girls’ basketball team defeated Wenonah 52-43 in its opening game Dec. 20 in the Big Orange Classic at Hoover High School.

Ashley Gaston led the Jaguars (8-5) with 18 points in the victory. Gaston knocked down 6-of-11 shots from the floor, including a 4-of-9 performance beyond the arc.

Whitney Gulledge added 10 points, nine rebounds four assists and five steals. Jasmine Moore chipped in nine points and two boards. Jessica Freeman finished with six points, two assists and two steals.

Victoria Baldwin added four points and seven rebounds. Kathryn Boswell finished with three points, four rebounds and three assists. Takia Mickens chipped in two points and one rebound.

Jasmine Hollis pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and finished with four steals in the win.
