The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Shelby County which is in effect until 5 p.m.

Most of the state will be under the threat of severe weather throughout the day. Updates will be posted as they are received.

UPDATE: As of 12:53 p.m. a  tornado warning has been put into effect for southern Shelby County. The warning is in effect until 1:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service recommends anyone in the path of the storm to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and take cover.
