Eagles finish eighth in Heart of Dixie Classic

The Oak Mountain High School wrestling team finished eighth in team standings Dec. 29-30 at the Heart of Dixie Classic tournament at Vestavia Hills High School.

Two Eagles claimed individual championships in the tournament.

John David (J.D.) Peden won the 106-pound championship. Peden earned a 2-1 decision over Jackson Hall of Hoover in the 106-pound title match.

Justin Woodall claimed the 195-pound title. Woodall earned a 17-0 technical fall over Ernest Alexander of Archer in the 195-pound championship match.

Vincent Kimbrough finished runner-up in the 170-pound division. Kimbrough pinned Robby Kwarteng of Archer in 4:32 in the semifinals before dropping a 12-6 decision against Colby Wilson of Cedar Park Vista Ridge in the 170-pound championship match.

Jared Godfrey finished third in the 126-pound division. Godfrey earned a 7-3 decision over David Taboada of Cedar Park Vista Ridge in the 126-pound consolation match.

Billy Dasher finished third in the heavyweight division. Dasher earned a 6-2 decision over Justin Levins of Prattville in the heavyweight consolation match.

Kimbrough led Oak Mountain with five pins in the tournament.

Woodall added four pins. Godfrey finished with three pins.

Dasher had two pins. Jake Miller and Jacob Darty contributed one pin each.
