Chelsea splits pair of wrestling matches

The Chelsea High School wrestling team fell to Dora 60-18 in a high school wrestling match Jan. 3.

Three Hornets won individual matches against Dora.

Michael Waller of Chelsea pinned Cory Williamson of Dora in 1:24 in the 132-pound match. John Dowd of Chelsea pinned Vernon Brown of Dora in 5:23 in the 160-pound match.

David Downard of Chelsea won his heavyweight match by forfeit.

The Hornets defeated host Sumiton Christian 51-18. Nine Chelsea wrestlers won individual matches against Sumiton Christian.

Joseph Wipperman of Chelsea won his 126-pound match by forfeit. Waller won his 132-pound match by forfeit. Patrick Costillo won his 138-pound match by forfeit.

Chandler Wood of Chelsea earned an 8-2 decision over Hadyn Valenta of Sumiton Christian in the 152-pound match.

Dowd won his 160-pound match by forfeit. Carlos Sanders won his 170-pound match by forfeit. Zakary Van Der Geest won his 182-pound match by forfeit. Nathan George won his 220-pound match by forfeit.

Downard pinned Zach Turner of Sumiton Christian in 1:47 in the heavyweight match.
