Eagles top rival Wilcats in wrestling match

The Calera High School wrestling squad defeated rival Shelby County 47-36 in high school wrestling action Jan. 5.

Eight Eagles won individual matches against Shelby County.

Hunter Alexander of Calera pinned Noah Dorough of Shelby County in the 106-pound match. Robert Thomaston of Calera pinned Aaron Stagner of Shelby County in the 113-pound match.

Keenan Agee of Calera pinned A.J. Cole of Shelby County in the 120-pound match. Christian McDonald of Calera earned a technical fall over Tyler Carter of Shelby County in the 126-pound match.

Coby Mize of Calera pinned Chris Upton of Shelby County in the 160-pound match. Vincent Smith of Calera won his 182-pound match by forfeit.

Braxton Stokes of Calera won his 220-pound match by forfeit. Danny Diaz of Calera pinned Dylan Grantham of Shelby County in the heavyweight match.

Six Shelby County wrestlers won individual matches against Calera.

Killian Berens of Shelby County won his 132-pound match by forfeit. Nick Horton of Shelby County won his 138-pound match by forfeit.

Austin Poe of Shelby County won his 145-pouns match by forfeit. Chase Weeks of Shelby County pinned Cody Thomaston of Calera in the 152-pound match.

Luke Miller of Shelby County pinned Jesse Davis of Calera in the 170-pound match. Clint Davis of Shelby County won his 195-pound match by forfeit.

The Eagles fell to McAdory 57-18. Three Calera wrestlers won individual matches against McAdory.

Cody Thomaston of Calera pinned Richard Martinez in 3:00 in the 152-pound match. Mize of Calera pinned Aaron Sizemore of McAdory in 1:00 in the 160-pound match.

Robert Thomaston of Calera won his 113-pound match by forfeit.

The Wildcats dropped a match against McAdory, 60-23. Four Shelby County wrestlers won individual matches against McAdory.

Stagner won his 113-pound match by forfeit. Poe earned a technical fall against Kenneth Hancock of McAdory in the 145-pound match.

Weeks pinned Richard Martinez of McAdory in the 152-pound match. Davis won his 195-pound match by forfeit.
