The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Shelby County 55-46 in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 contest Jan. 10.

Abbie Cutcliffe led the Lions (13-4 overall, 4-0 in Class 5A, Area 7) with 25 points, including 13 points in the third quarter, in the victory.

Hannah Wainwright added 13 points. Cara Medders chipped in 12 points.

Aulicia Nunn led Shelby County with a game-high 34 points.

BOYS

The Shelby County High School boys’ basketball team defeated Briarwood Christian 53-42 in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 contest Jan. 10.

Tyler Madison led Shelby County (7-14 overall, 1-4 in Class 5A, Area 7) with a game-high 22 points in the victory. Madison also pulled down 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Brandon McKinney added a double-double with 20 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

Jason Laatsch led Briarwood Christian (10-10 overall, 0-4 in Class 5A, Area 7) with 20 points.
