Lions pound Bessemer Academy in area contest

The Kingwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Bessemer Academy 33-13 in an Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 3A, Area 2 contest Jan. 10.

Casey Whitmer led the Lions (4-11 overall, 1-1 in AISA Class 3A, Area 2) with 14 points in the victory. Whitmer also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Blair Holsombeck added 10 points and a team-high seven steals. Katie Etheridge chipped in nine points and 11 rebounds.

Kenzie Greer grabbed seven rebounds. Karley Chamblee finished with two boards and one steal. Madelyn Pearce contributed one rebound and one steal.

BOYS

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team fell to Bessemer Academy 70-47 in an Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 3A, Area 2 contest Jan. 10.

Daniel Fillingim and Andrew Whitfield led the Lions (5-10 overall, 0-2 in AISA Class 3A, Area 2) with 11 points each. Fillingim also grabbed eight rebounds.

Jacob Bussey added nine points and eight rebounds. Josh Purvis chipped in seven points and three boards.

Charles Robinson finished with five points. Jared Stewart contributed three points, while Jordan Vance finished with one point.
