Jaguars defeat Brewbaker Tech in MLK Classic

Spain Park High School junior Whitney Gulledge knocked down four 3-pointers while leading the Jaguars to a 57-42 win over Brewbaker Tech in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Classic at the Pete Hanna Center on the Samford University campus Jan. 16.

Gulledge finished with a team-high 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor, including a 4-of-8 performance from beyond the arc. Gullede also grabbed three rebounds and dished out one assist in the win.

Jessica Freeman added 11 points and six rebounds. Kathryn Boswell and Ashley Gaston contributed nine points each in the win.

Victoria Baldwin chipped in eight points and five rebounds. Jasmine Moore, who grabbed seven rebounds, and Takia Mickens finished with three points each.

Kelsie Williams grabbed six rebounds. Denisha Morgan pulled down three boards.

The Jaguars (14-10) drained 14 3-pointers in the victory. Spain Park also outrebounded Brewbaker Tech 37-26 in the win.

Spain Park raced out to a 9-0 lead in the firs three minutes of the game following a 3-pointer by Freeman and back-to-back 3-pointers by Gulledge.

The Jaguars took their first double-digit lead in the contest following a 3-pointer by Moore with 6:35 remaining in the first half, which gave Spain Park a 20-8 advantage. Spain Park stretched its lead to as many as 16 points in the second quarter following a basket by Freeman with just under one minute remaining in the opening half.

The Jaguars pushed their lead to 18 points, 47-29, following a 3-pointer by Gaston with 25 seconds left in the third quarter.
