On Feb. 2 Alabamians will be encouraged to give to non-profits from all over state. Alabamagivesday.org will provide a forum for individuals to give to one or more of  hundreds of participating non-profits during a 24-hour period.

According to the press release, monies contributed to SafeHouse through Alabama Gives Day will be used as match for grants that provide emergency shelter and comprehensive services for victims and their children. For every dollar generated through Alabama Gives Day, SafeHouse will receive $4 in grant funds. The event will be held from midnight to 12:59.

SafeHouse of Shelby County is a participant in the first annual Alabama Gives Day. SafeHouse’s mission is to empower survivors of domestic and sexual violence through support and advocacy and to educate the community to prevent future abuse.

SafeHouse provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in the City of Hoover, and in Shelby, Coosa, and Clay Counties. These services are provided at no-cost to victims, and include emergency shelter, individual and group counseling, child advocacy, a 24 hour crisis hotline, legal advocacy, community education and prevention programs.

“Donors will choose the nonprofit(s) they want to support from a list of 12 areas of interest, i.e. Children and Youth, Animals, Health, Environment, etc.,” said Russell A. Jackson, Gives Day Manager for Alabama. “It’s all about connecting them to the missions they are most passionate about, and hopefully to a nonprofit they’ve never supported.”
