Thompson wrestlers take down Vestavia Hills

The Thompson High School wrestling team defeated Vestavia Hills 45-24 in high school wrestling action Jan. 19.

Eight Warriors won individual matches against Vestavia Hills.

Mario Haynes of Thompson earned a 10-4 decision over Morgan Paugh of Vestavia Hills in the 126-pound match. Brewer Gilliland of Thompson pinned Jeremy Strong of Vestavia Hills in 2:25 in the 132-pound match.

Nick Hall of Thompson pinned Joe Timberlake of Vestavia Hills in 3:09 in the 145-pound match. John Austin (J.A.) Jones of Thompson pinned Jimmy Witt of Vestavia Hills in 2:33 in the 152-pound match.

Cahman Holder of Thompson pinned Benjamin Cage of Vestavia Hills in 1:08 in the 170-pound match. Jesse Masters of Thompson pinned Zach Malone of Vestavia Hills in 20 seconds in the 182-pound match.

David Capers of Thompson pinned Jahaad Jackson of Vestavia Hills in 4:30 in the 220-pound match. Austin Gould of Thompson won his 113-pound match by forfeit.

Six Vestavia Hills wrestlers defeated their Thompson opponents in individual matches.

Douglas Burke of Vestavia Hills pinned Matthew Gilson of Thompson in 5:32 in the 106-pound match. Will Hubert of Vestavia Hills earned a 4-1 decision over Reed Jacks of Thompson in the 120-pound match.

Will Knox of Vestavia Hills earned a 13-7 decision over Jacob Mayhall of Thompson in the 138-pound match. Jack Nelson of Vestavia Hills earned a 5-3 decision over Josh Gillaspie of Thompson in the 160-pound match.

Dalton Campbell of Vestavia Hills earned a 15-13 decision over Nick Gentile of Thompson in the 195-pound match. Hunter Haynes of Vestavia Hills won his heavyweight match by forfeit.
