A 17-year-old Calera High School senior is dead after suffering a gunshot wound on Saturday in Chilton County.

Parker Morris passed away about 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22 at Shelby Medical Center, according to her mother, Elaine Walton.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said the incident took place off Chilton County 50, near the intersection with Alabama 191.

“When the accident occurred (in Thorsby), there was no cell phone service or a landline,” Walton said. “They had to put her in the car to get service or flag someone down. They flagged down a vehicle that turned out to be a firefighter. That’s when they called the paramedics, and she was transported to Shelby (Medical Center).”

Davis said the shooting is an ongoing death investigation.

Davis said an autopsy is planned for the morning of Jan. 25, which will help decide the direction of the investigation.

Morris appeared to suffer a single gunshot.
