A pair of McCalla men were arrested by the Helena Police Department on Feb. 1 after police said the two men led Helena and Pelham officers on a high-speed pursuit through heavy traffic.

Helena police arrested 28-year-old William Terrell Vice Jr., charging him with attempting to elude police and 27-year-old Blake Matthew Vice, charging him with first-degree assault. The two suspects are brothers, according to Helena police.

At about 2:40 p.m. on Feb. 1, Helena officers attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicle after police said it was involved in several burglaries in Pelham. A few minutes before Helena officers tried to stop the suspects, the same vehicle had eluded Pelham police by fleeing at a high rate of speed, according to a Helena Police Department press release.

Pelham officers canceled the pursuit because of the high volume of traffic and the reckless manner in which the offender was driving, according to the press release.

Helena officers attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicle, but called off the pursuit for the same reasons, according to Helena police.

A few hours after calling off the pursuit, Helena detectives located the suspects’ vehicle in a remote area off of Shelby County 91 in the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area.

After the suspects allegedly attempted to flee and strike one of the detectives with the vehicle, both occupants were taken into custody and are being held in the Shelby County Jail.

Police claimed the suspects have been involved in several burglaries throughout the area.

“Although, at this time, we cannot connect these two with any open burglary cases in Helena, these arrests will most definitely close numerous cases for surrounding agencies,” Helena Deputy Police Chief Tim Carter wrote in the press release.
