FROM STAFF REPORTS

The University of Montevallo baseball team fell at home to Delta State University 24-3 in a non-conference game Feb. 10.

The Falcons (2-3) were unable to slow down the Statesmen offense, which produced runs in every inning except for the third inning. Montevallo sent out five different pitchers, all of which gave up at least two runs. Montevallo’s lone bright spot was a two-run homerun from junior Vincent Andrews in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Will Fulmer was the only other Falcon with an extra base hit as he hit a double and picked up an RBI in the first inning. Andrews, Fulmer, freshman Cody White, junior Austin Dubberly, a Pelham High School graduate, and senior Blaine Rosenberg, an Oak Mountain High School graduate, were the only Falcons with a hit as they each had one.

Sophomore Alex Guilford suffered the loss as he went 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and a walk. He is now 0-1 on the season.

Aaron Newcomb picked up the win for the Statesmen as he went five innings with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks. Tyler Dalton had three strikeouts and a walk in the final four innings on the mound.

The Falcons will return to action tomorrow, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. as they continue their three-game series with Delta State University.
