Eagles finish runner-up in section meet

The Oak Mountain High School wrestling team finished runner-up in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A section meet Feb. 11 at Gardendale High School.

The Eagles finished with 169 points in the section meet, which left Oak Mountain 28 points behind section champion Hewitt-Trussville.

Oak Mountain finished with four individual section champions and 11 total state tournament qualifiers. The AHSAA state tournament will be held Feb. 16-18 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

The Eagles’ John David (J.D.) Peden claimed the 106-pound individual championship. Peden pinned Noah Jones of Clay-Chalkville in the 106-pound title match.

Jared Godfrey won the 126-pound individual championship. Godfrey earned a 3-0 decision over Jerrod Bennett of Hewitt-Trussville in the 126-pound title match.

Justin Woodall claimed the 195-pound individual championship. Woodall pinned Matt Robles of Gardendale in 25 seconds in the 195-pound title match.

Lloyd Time captured the 220-pound individual championship. Time earned a 16-0 technical fall over Braxton Busby of Hewitt-Trussville in the 220-pound title match.

The Eagles’ additional state tournament qualifiers included Trigg Langner, who finished runner-up in the 113-pound division, Bronson Lubresky, who came in fourth in the 120-pound division, Stephen Chandler, who came in fourth in the 132-pound division, Angus McBee, who finished runner-up in the 138-pound division, Vincent Kimbrough, who came in third in the 170-pound division, Evan Webb, who finished runner-up in the 182-pound division and Billy Dasher, who came in fourth in the heavyweight division.
