Hornets top Center Point in season opener

The fourth-ranked Chelsea High School boys’ soccer team kicked off its season with a 10-0 win over Center Point in its opening match Feb. 13.

Sophomore forward Will Bevill led the Hornets (1-0) with four goals on the night.

Shelton Smith added two goals. Eric King, Camilo Cangrejo and Cody Hood had one goal each.
The other goal came from a second-half own goal on a misplayed ball by a Center Point defender. Center Point had one breakaway scoring opportunity midway through the second half, but Chelsea goalkeeper Josh Carpenter came off his line to make a save, which ultimately preserved the shutout.

GIRLS

The Chelsea High School girls’ soccer team defeated Center Point 12-0 in its season-opening match Feb. 13.

Olivia Bowman led the Hornets (1-0) with three goals in the victory.

Mara Roberts and Stephanie LeBeau added two goals each. Alli Cochran finished with one goal and a team-high three assists.

Maya Hughes, Madison Gowins, Cheyenne Thompson and Emily Goodall scored one goal each in the win.

Ashleigh Niven recorded the shutout for the Hornets.
