Lightning advance to championship game

The Evangel Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Rock Christian School of Montgomery 93-28 in the semifinals of the Alabama Christian Sports Conference championship tournament Feb. 17.

Evangel Christian (22-0) placed five players in double figures. Aaron Walker led a balanced attack with 15 points.

Ben Smith added 14 points. DaJon Townson chipped in 13 points.

Adam Gurley contributed 11 points Judson Motes finished with 10 points in the win.

Earlier in the evening, Evangel Christian was presented with the first-place trophy for regular season competition after finishing conference play with an unblemished record. Townson and Gurley were also named first team all-conference.

Evangel Christian advanced to the ACSC championship game Feb. 18 at Samford University at 12:30 p.m., where the Lightning will play the second-seeded Evangel Family Christian of Montgomery.

GIRLS

The Evangel Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated First Assembly Christian 52-28 in the Alabama Christian Sports Conference tournament semifinals Feb. 17.

Rainey Ketcham led the Lightning (16-1) with 15 points in the victory.

Whitney Thorpe added 12 points. Bethany Letson chipped in 11 points in the win.

Evangel Christian will face rival Hope Christian in the ACSC tournament championship game Feb. 18 at Samford University.
