Bulldogs top rival Eagles in opener

The Montevallo High School baseball team defeated rival Calera 14-4 on the season-opening day for both teams Feb. 20.

Trevor Chatham led the Bulldogs at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored three runs.

Zack Smith finished 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Taylor Burr went 2-for-4 and scored three runs.

Chase Hamrick finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and scored two runs.

Taylor Burr earned the win on the mound after giving up four runs, including one earned run, on three hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

B.J. Barker, Coby Mize and Ryne Phelps led Calera at the plate with a hit each.

Barker took the loss on the mound after giving up four earned runs on six hits with three walks in three innings.
