CALERA – The Calera City Council updated the original resolution concerning the salaries for the mayor and City Council during the Feb. 21 city council meeting.

“My suggestion is to keep the pay we have and not have raises,” Mayor Jon Graham said, indicating the pay scale for the next four years.

The City Council agreed with Graham and voted unanimously to approve the updated resolution.

In other action, the City Council:

-Amended the original engineering fee for the Calera bypass. The new agreement is for $21,000, of which the city will pay 20 percent, or approximately $4,200, according to City Engineer Chris Pappas. The bypass, which is in an engineering study, will run from Alabama 25 to the west of Calera and intersect with U.S. 31 north of the city. According to Graham, the bypass will keep heavy truck traffic from downtown Calera.

-Passed a resolution to zone about 11 parcels of land for the first time. The parcels of land, which are currently zoned as municipal reserve, will now be zoned respectively according to the resolution.
